Safeguarding & Welfare
Safeguarding & Welfare
At UP, the safety, wellbeing and positive experience of every participant is our priority.
UP provides sporting, leadership, education and personal development experiences for young people through a range of activities, including hockey camps, clinics, school programmes, workshops, team sessions and other events.
We want every young person involved in UP to feel safe, included, encouraged, respected and able to enjoy the experience fully.
We have safeguarding, supervision, medical, welfare and reporting procedures in place across our activities. All coaches, leaders, facilitators and staff working with young people are expected to follow our safeguarding procedures and code of conduct.
-
UP is committed to:
Creating safe, positive and inclusive environments for all young people.
Putting the welfare of young people first.
Treating every participant with dignity, fairness and respect.
Promoting positive behaviour, confidence, connection and enjoyment.
Ensuring coaches, leaders and staff understand their responsibilities when working with young people.
Responding appropriately to any welfare, safeguarding, bullying, medical or behavioural concern.
Communicating clearly with parents/guardians before, during and after activities where appropriate.
-
UP has a Child Safeguarding Statement in place.
This statement outlines the nature of the services we provide, the potential safeguarding risks that may arise, and the procedures we have in place to manage those risks.
A copy of our Child Safeguarding Statement is available to parents/guardians on request.
-
UP puts clear supervision arrangements in place for activities involving young people.
The level and type of supervision will depend on the nature of the activity, the age of the participants, the venue, the duration of the activity and any specific needs identified in advance.
Participants are expected to remain within the agreed activity areas and follow instructions from the UP team.
-
Parents/guardians may be asked to provide relevant medical information before certain UP activities, including allergies, medical conditions, medication, dietary requirements and emergency contact details.
Where required, first aid arrangements will be in place. If a participant becomes unwell or injured during an activity, the UP team will assess the situation, provide appropriate first aid where required, and contact parents/guardians where necessary.
In an emergency, medical support or emergency services will be contacted immediately.
-
For activities where medication, allergies or dietary requirements are relevant, parents/guardians must ensure that all information provided to UP is accurate and up to date.
Any medication that needs to be taken during an activity should be clearly labelled and declared in advance.
For residential or longer duration activities, additional medical and dietary procedures may apply.
-
Photos and videos may be taken during UP activities for updates, memories, promotion and future UP communications.
Parents/guardians will be asked to provide consent where required. If consent is not provided, UP will take reasonable steps to ensure the participant is not included in identifiable photos or videos used for promotional purposes.
-
UP is committed to creating a culture where every young person feels safe, included and respected.
Bullying, exclusion, intimidation, abusive language, discrimination, harassment or behaviour that negatively impacts another participant’s experience will not be accepted.
Participants are expected to:
Treat others with kindness and respect.
Include others where possible.
Follow instructions from UP coaches, leaders and staff.
Respect venues, equipment and shared spaces.
Speak to a trusted adult if they are worried about themselves or someone else.
Any concern raised by a young person, parent/guardian, coach or staff member will be taken seriously and managed in line with UP’s safeguarding and behaviour procedures.
